Jezebel recently did a piece on April Flores asking some American Apparel showroom rep why they don't make plus sizes.  they said "it's not our demographic"...you can read it if you want.

That isn't news!

I ALWAYS ask good designers, while paroozing their boutique, why they don't carry plus sizes. And they ALWAYS say the same thing.  "It's not our demographic"  To which I ALWAYS reply "Well duh.  you only make size 0-6.  How can I be your demographic if you purposefully exclude me?"

This isn't a catch 22, people.  If you make it they will come.  But you can't force someone to represent you.  Artists make art inspired by their muses and I guess I can't be everybody's inspiration.  Sometimes it's not about being attacked as a group, usually it's just about being ignored.  Not being considered.  Not being a muse for anyone truly talented. 

I called American Apparel several times over the years.  And asked the same question.  The best answer I ever got was "if you think it will sell, then buy 5000 units, we'll make any size for 5000 units or more, and you can sell them yourself." 

A hijacked American Apparel line for fatties?  I love it!
