I'm always super duper critical of fat women in entertainment.  Every time I see Camryn Manheim or Marissa Jaret Winokur I think "why can't the patron saints to fatties have better taste in clothes?"  My gut reaction during the oscars was to praise the Queen and give "tacky" and "eh" reviews for Sibide and Monique.  After a little research and a second look, I have some heart-felt things to say not just about the dresses being worn but the messages being sent.

Did you hear Gabby Sibide comment on her dress?  "If fashion were porn, this dress would be the MONEY SHOT!"  That bitch has chutzpa!  I immediately retracted my statement about her dress being prom (realizing it was in fact NOT made of tafetta) and decided the appliques were not awesome but she was nati approved.

Looking back at the last year of Mo'Nique I realized how FAR less tacky she has been since she hosted the BET awards in '07.  Her dress was not red carpet material and looked like something that would be scolded by Tim Gun, but she put thought into it and used unnamed designers that have supported her for years.  The color of the dress and the gardenia's in her hair were a thoughtful tribute to Hattie McDaniel, the first black woman to win an Oscar.
